Gourcuff: to Buy or Not to Buy
By: Jennifer | October 16th, 2008
I think like everyone else, the big question that bothers me when I try to sleep is: will Bordeaux buy Gourcuff?
Okay, so maybe it’s been especially me, but there is good reason! For example, he is completely reliable, as shown in my previous post. Of course, if you asked me who is reliable without seeing that graph, I would say Wendel or Cavenaghi (even if he can’t usually last more than 80 mins). Heck, if you asked me before this season I’d even have said Gouffran. But the simple truth is, Gourcuff is damn reliable. Playing in every game and being simply amazing and consistent in every game. If Zidane played for Bordeaux, I don’t see why Gourcuff can’t (if he is to be the new number 10, that is.)
So what’s the dish? Here it is:
Bordeaux has the priority to buy until April 15th. Gourcuff will likely cost around €15m in the very least. (Remember that Liverpool’s bid on Cavenaghi is a supposed £13m, which is around €16m as of right now.) I wish I had the financial report for Bordeaux (like they have for Lyon) to show, but I can assure you that we are not very rich.
On the other hand, Hatem ben Arfa costed OM about €10m, and he is considered like, THE #2 PROSPECT OF FRANCE. Personally, I think Gourcuff justifies a €15m price tag, but then again like Bordeaux, I don’t have that type of disposable income.
Of course there’s the other people who want him (back), which right now consists of Bayern, Milan, and perhaps a Milan/Liverpool Agger/Gourcuff trade. In the unlikely case that the last happens, I’d be pretty pissed at them taking both Cavenaghi and Gourcuff…tell me that won’t happen?
So what’s the verdict?
Well, Galliani has been quoted in the Gazzetta dello Sport (just as he was previously “quoted” in Tuttosport, which I’ve been advised holds nothing but Juve) as saying:
“I hope Bordeaux will not remove [as in back out of] the option [to buy], which is very high: 15 million. But Gourcuff must also understand that at Milan there is competition, and it is necessary ‘ have the right state of mind as Flamini, who works hard and expects to find its place.”
Triaud too says:
“The question does not arise [now]. It will arise in April. Why talk now when it will happen in April? It is six months [later], we will not talk more than that. I do why would start scratching his head to see if the ad or not. It was time.
We’ll see if we want to do, the president continues Bordeaux. If you want, we’ll see if we can. There is no more stupid than others. He is a boy international with an option to purchase. I do not see why [that] if we have the means to exercise this option, it does not [we will] remove. “
Basically, let us worry in April
Be prepared to heard (read) an earful from me.

I stupidly assumed that it’s down to Milan, and if they want him back they get him, no matter what Bordeaux want. Does the bit about having “priority” on Gourcuff actually mean that if Bordeaux are willing to pay the (alleged) €15 million, they get him, even if all of Milan’s attacking players lose limbs between now and spring, and they think they have to have him back NO MATTER WHAT?

If Gourcuff does not stay at Bordeaux that would be a huge lose for them but im sure they will do anything in their power to keep such a player and with Obertan gaining more and more experince its looking like they will have quite a deadly attack very soon!

Bordeaux isn’t a a soccer powerhouse, not even in france , i don’t know why he would stay there ( unless if they pay him lots of money, which i doubt the club has), but going back to milan posses another challenge he will have to fight for starting 11, since ac milan is very conservative on its older players, there are not like man utd or asernal who have have policy of playing with younger players, maybe a club like bayern or madrid can do it for him. the problem with bordeaux is that its not a stable club, one season the club is doing good the next season they perform poorly due to players living , unless if the team is built around him

Martha, I think that Milan just don’t need him now. Apparently, Galliani says that he still needs to “prove his worth” when he returns, and obviously due to competition from the other midfielders (namely Kaka, I would think).
As well, Setanta reported this
“We have a loan with a right to sign the player,” Triaud told the French press.
“We have until April 15 to buy the player and Milan cannot do anything.”
So I think it’s like a clause in the contract that says that as long as it’s before Apr 15, Bordeaux can buy and Milan can’t stop them. And if you believe what goal.com says…he ain’t quite happy at Milan either (though I think we can all tell).
Pierre, I think the great thing for Bordeaux is that there is a promising future generation that will be skilled enough technically to do great things in the near future. Though acquiring Gourcuff won’t be such a bad thing either, IMO. I do think that midfield lacks the creativity and coherence that Gourcuff now supplies. Not that we were lacking in attack, TBH. Now if only we had more aspiring defenders……..Gaston, I see what you’re saying, but I don’t think any fan would think “oh we’re not that great, I hope Gourcuff won’t stay at my club” right? I think his main competition at AC is Kaka, who is definitely not old.
The main problem with Bordeaux is consistency. I think Bordeaux are surprised at how good they can be (I mean before last season, no one thought about L1 title/anything). Right now we’re not TOO shabby, only 3 points behind 2nd place Toulouse…
And to building the team around Gourcuff…if we can make do with what we have! No more money to invest if we purchase Gourcuff..

Oh yes Martha, I have it in writing
“…Bordeaux has until April 15 to remove this option. Milan can not do anything by then. If we decide to lift it, we asked if Yoann course is always in agreement with the previously signed. I do not want to throw oil on the fire but I think that the Milanese are quite awkward to question the attitude and behavior of Gourcuff, who has not integrated into the locker room. It is anything but stupid, rude and disrespectful. This is not the best way to envy the small return.”

What is hilarious is that Milan said that they didn’t have room for Gourcuff and yet bought the useless Ronaldinho and are apparently even considering Beckham.

Inara, I also heard about the Beckham rumour via Laurie. Gourcuff definitely isn’t old enough to play for them.
