Gourcuff Bullied and Other World Cup Tales
By: Jennifer | June 16th, 2010Everyone is suffering from World Cup fever, myself included, so there isn’t much coming from the Bordeaux camp. But perhaps it’s time to do a little update on the 4 Bordelais in the French camp.
Firstly, some real updates in the form of my tweets this week:
1.Rumour is circulating that former Bordelais Obertan might return to France, though very likely to ASSE, or maybe to Galatasaray.
2. Adbou Traoré to be loaned out to Toulouse?
3. Training kit for Bordeaux leaked.
4. Surprise, Yoann Gourcuff is married (to Thierry Henry’s wife).
5. Lille and St. Étienne interested in Gouffran.
6. Puma releases new ball for Ligue 1…I’m not a fan.
7. According to le Parisien, Bordeaux are now tracking Galatasaray’s Sabri Sarıoğlu, a right winger who can also play wingback/rightback.
8. Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud defends the France national team and is confident in their abilities.
9. Friendlies are released for FCGB: Lille, Ajaccio, Legia Warszawa, Tours and participation in the tournois de Paris, playing Roma & Porto. Exact schedule is available here.
Remember you can follow me on twitter @BordeauxOffside.
As all of you probably already know, Carrasso, Les Bleus’ third keeper injured his left hamstring in training (it’s a muscle spasm) earlier this week and is expected to be out for a month. Thankfully there are 2 keepers before him but as we all know shit happens (i.e. when Keita had to start for us…). The FIFA rule is that after the first game is played, there will be no replacements allowed, and Carrasso was declared to be unfit 2 days ago, France having played the previous Friday. They submitted an appeal for an exemption to call up Ruffier from Monaco, but that request was turned down today.

Now Carrasso will sit out the World Cup and France will be whittled down to 22 men for the rest of the tournament. Ho hum, he seemed to have enjoy beating out Mikaël Landreau for that 3rd keeper spot too.

Next topic on the agenda is the issue of Gourcuff’s isolation and our golden boy being bullied. Reports are arising that Gourcuff has been eating his meals alone because no one would sit with him, and that people are reluctant to train with him as well. Based on my pictorial research, Gourcuff’s only friends in the NT seem to be his Bordeaux teammates Carrasso (who is his seatmate) and Planus, as well as Lyon’s Toulalan and friend Lloris. Maybe it’s the nature of his character (the fast kind of partying lifestyle apparently no longer appeals to him, and he prefers to sit around at home), or perhaps it’s the the prestige of his upbringing (the son of an acclaimed former player and coach), but many French players (Ribery, etc.) prefer not to talk to or befriend him.
(Old-fashioned souls sticking together.)
Speculation are now surfacing that his isolation and strained relationships with much of the team are now affecting his performance on the pitch and ability to communicate with the other starters (though Gourcuff chalks this up to the annoying buzzing of the vuvuzelas.)
(Gourcuff, the loner.*)
Whatever the case is, it seems now that his performance against Uruguay was not satisfactory. Despite being Domenech’s clear favourite and the coach’s pet, Gourcuff will not start in tomorrow’s game against Mexico, and might only come off the bench (this is purely in the realm of speculation). His role will be filled with Toulalan and Ribery, with Anelka pushing forward.
*By the way, note that he is NOT tweeting. Gourcuff does not have a twitter, those of you fangirls be warned.
(Marc enjoying the benefits of the luxury hotel, oh wait — no, that’s the physio.)
First time WC’er Marc Planus is doing just fine, maybe with a bit of extra physio work to help him through the injury he sustained in the past season. While he isn’t having a stellar time playing for Les Bleus…he seems to be enjoying himself.

To be honest I have no clue what’s going on with him ’cause no one bothers to report on some substitute defender who wasn’t even called up before the warmup against China. Here’s a picture anyway.

Unlike Gourcuff, Alou Diarra integrates into the group perfectly, with him considered the stingiest of the group (from the videos released Euro2008…). Here he is flipping through a comic rendition of les Bleus. Actually a picture of Alou not flipping comics. I will now look at lots of Diarra photos and try to memorize his face.

I just herd. I’m shocked! shocked! I would have never expect him to get into a fight, lol. Is there a video leak? I want to see Ribery (almost) get KTFO! Gourcuff has had to deal with a lot according to his father. He probably had enough of Ribery…
That’s not what I said? I’m sorry if I wasn’t clear. It doesn’t matter, tho. Did you hear about Blanc and his clause, lmao? He has no loyalty! “I will make it clear. I don’t want to do this job for very long.” LOL. When Blanc takes over it wont be easy to reverse what has happened. I don’t think Evra is fit to be captain. He clearly seems to be taking sides. What Analka said was unacceptable on so many levels, and he’s more concerned about a traitor?
All this season we have been hearing rumours about Tresh and the Spurs. I think Le Perisian is just recycling the rumour… Based on the rumours we’ve herd so far it looks like we are interested in a CM/DM, a ST, a RW and maybe a RB… Not bad at all.

-

I think Tremoulinas is way better than Clichy.
Evra on form is still the best option at left back. Cissokho’s defensive abilities are better than Tremoulinas’s but the later beats him going forward. With Cissoko defecting towards Senegal I hope Benoit starts to improve his defensive game as well.
Poor Gourcuff. But he just has to endure that for a few more days. I hope Blanc does good man management and creates a good atmosphere.
I see, you finally got that Diarra pic sorted out.

-

Anicho: Damn, Domenech and Ríbery both just denied the rumours of the fight (though there’s been no word from Gourcuff or Toulalan??) I was so impressed with Gourcuff for like 12 hours!!
YEAH THE CLAUSE LOL!! I guess he still wants to go to “big european club” after all. There was a minor debate about Blanc on twitter and people were talking about how he’s the mercenary. But honestly it’s not that bad of a thing for the French NT right now after Doms and all this bullshit. While I don’t think the FFF would let him put a clause like that in his contract, the fact that he wanted it + the fact that his salary is like double of Domenech’s say a lot about his person. Blanc is a good business man, you can’t hate him for that
Plus, he does a good job at what he does and is probably value for his money.Evra and Doms do prove a good point though in that what Anelka said was something that should not have been leaked — it was unacceptable, sure but I bet lots of players say that to their coaches and not get booted from camp. Though I’m sure this was going to come to light someday. But I honestly am enjoying this!
Aditya: I don’t think we’ll see Tresh in the starting lineup in a while, but I’d at least want to see him being called up for friendlies and what not. I think he’s a fantastic wingback, and I don’t think he has too much competition in that category (though as you probably know I’m not too familiar with the french national team…) Well, he’s still young and has time to improve his game

-

I find it hard to believe Ribery. But Gourcuff probably didn’t fight…
The funny thing about Blanc is that the FFF have paid (or agreed to pay) us compensation for breaking the the contract of Blanc, but Blanc has not signed! We have already signed Tigana!
You bring up a interesting point. The chaos in EdF is 10x worse than the crisis he had with Bordeaux. He failed to completely solve the problem, how is he going to solve the current one Ray has is going to leave to him?
I really think it should have been left there, no talk of traitor, no training camp rebellion. Evra is not a positive leader, his is playing a bigger part in this mess.
In 2006 Cassano insulted Fabio Capello, he didn’t play until the end of the season, which lead to RM first title in 3 years. A good coach will not take insults from players. They have a job to do and need to keep the dressing room intact. Ray is an idiot.

Haha! You and I are on same page today! First ever win for the GdB F1 racer in super league! tweet tweet tweet (I saw here: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/84626 looks like OL has been “retired” is that code word for getting completely pwned??) TWEET TWEET TWEET I’m so much more updated, now that I’m on twitter.
Wenger and Chamakh were on TF1 today talking about the EdF and Gourcuff! I need to see it!!!!!
At least this whole EdF thing will blow over after next Thursday. Then we can go back to quietly speculating about Bordeaux and not so much drama again. Can’t wait.
Also Bordeaux posted pics of Chamakh’s farewell FINALLY. Did you see the new website design? Not really a big fan of it but at least now I can see the diaporama pics really big. http://www.girondins.com/hommage-der-marouane-chaban.html

-

I think it’s when you have problems with you car, that you retire. I don’t know. Tweet, tweet, tweet, lol. You always seem to be a couple steps ahead of me on rumours, but you always miss games!!
After Tuesday’s game there should be a flood of news on the national team because some players will come out and talk. Surely not all the players disagree with the decision of the FFF.
the club really needed to update modernize and update their website for some time now. I agree with you, I don’t like the design too much.
Thanks for the pictures! I hope they have pic after every game…

-

Hey, I try my best to catch the games! After we lost to OM for the finals I caught every game with the except of 2…I think the reason why I’m so updated now is that I have nothing to do at home so I keep checking my twitter + news sites compulsively (it’s been impossible for me to be employed yet…)
I like the fact that they’re modernizing it but it’s still a chore to navigate, but I like that they are giving us more access to things!
Yeah I agree, there is no way the whole group agreed unanimously to boycott training. Things are about to get more interesting.

-

Hahaha, I was joking.
Be careful Jennifer, you’re going to get addicted; you wont be able to stop. You’ll become like one of those girondin fans… named Pauline: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koeoOrIm6og PASSIONATE!
good luck on your job search. I’m sure you’ll find a job this summer.

-

appearently, Blanc stalled sign the contract with the FFF because he was approached by Inter to replace Mourinho. He wanted to take the offer but he had already given his word to the Edf. POW!
Double blow for Blanc. He leaves the team in shambles, wins nothing and doesn’t get the job he was initially looking for. He should show some commitment for once i his life. Edf is another spring board but this one is bigger!
He should have showed some patience.. I’m sure he we would have let him go to Inter and we would have won the league and maybe moved on a to the Semis of the UCL. what’s done is done.

-

Anicho, I don’t think it’s a good sign that I already watched pauline’s video before you showed me (I’m subscribed to the channel too…). Plus I watched all of it understanding only about 30% of what is being said.
What I’ve been hearing is that he snubbed Inter to take the FFF job but what you are saying sounds much more appropriate. You do know that it has been one of my DREAMS to see Laurent Blanc take over Inter and to hear this is just devastating (considering the man that DID take over is RAFA so I’m disappointed.) Looks like I won’t be watching Inter yet again this season. UGH.
Yes, I totally agree. Usually he’s a much more patient man but he really jumped the gun on this…tsk tsk Blanc. Show a bit loyalty won’t cha Laurent, one of these days. Maybe it’s not so good that he coach Inter after all. BUT STILL RAFA UGHHHH

-

Hello Jennifer.
I am just wondering.
Are you sure that Yoann Gourcuff is married?

-

^Oh no, he’s not married at all. That was simply a joke and a mistake on the news agency’s part.

-

I herd Planus’ name was in the news! I don’t believe it; I can’t believe it! Impossible!
My friend said the Bordeaux kit will be presented the day of training which is just around the corner. I’m hoping the home kit is like the one I posted not to far long ago… the pending unofficial one.

-

Gourcuff is now my favorite player. He represents the ills of todays society. the kind, hardworking respectful man is an outcast in the midst of party animals. smh….

-

Ridiculous! I saw on RMC and the girondins.com forums….he’d be an IDIOT to have been involved. THey mentioned the 12 players who were against the protest not to train and Gourcuff and Diarra among them, but no Planus. Really Marc? Are you really an idiot??
Haha, Gourcuff’s red….Jesus no longer loves him either. Planus was out too with a knee injury but nothing serious. Training restart in 6 days…some of these players need a loooong holiday.
These are the ones you talked about right? http://tweetphoto.com/28419227 they look classy and I rather like the 3rd kit.

-

so who won the fight

-

Ribery and Gourcuff didn’t fight, they were about to but Toulalan prevented them.
^this is all rumour and speculation though

-

I like the home; I hate the alternative. Pink/magenta! pffft… I think this time I might purchase both home and away (because I haven’t bought an away in all these years) with Tremoulinas on the back one, for sure, and the other blank. Planus and Gourcuff are still possibilities.

-

DON’T HATE THE PINK!!! I like it. If I get a chance to buy the pink kit I WILL.
I’ve decided that if I buy a kit this season I’ll get Trémoulinas, so I’ll have 29 and 28.
And maybe I’ll consider getting gourcuff now that I respect him much more (and as you said he might be stocked in toronto?)

-

No, Jennifer, NOOOO! I think I’m regretting not purchasing a Chamakh kit. I remember going to the Zidane game and this Moroccan wearing a Chamakh kit was talking to me about Bordeaux… I wanted to get one; he appreciated Chamakh sooooooo much.
Gourcuff is much more hotter now, LOL.
Yes, in Toronto, but the sportswear shack closed down
They couldn’t afford to pay their lease apparently. I’ll be looking into other shops (I’ll tell you if I find anything).

-

Have you seen THESE jerseys? http://twitpic.com/1zy34k http://www.fcgb.net/userfiles/maillot-girondins-bordeaux2010-2011.png
Someone tweeted that these should be the new jerseys….I dont’ like them as much.
Geesh, so many in the rumours..I should make my own and leak them
Ha! I’m glad I got mine but I doubt I’ll wear it very much..I managed to get them in a size too small (my friend told me to get this size but I didn’t realize she’s shorter and smaller than me…). It’s going on my wall though!! I’m sure you can find Chamakh kits on eBay?
Yeah Gourcuff IS much better now…I always considered him a bit overrated and couldn’t stand all his fans and their constant AWE of him…at least now I know he has a much better character than I presumed.
And plus do let me know! I’ll do some looking too but I doubt I’ll have much luck..

-

how do you always get to it first? i was just about to post that!
I dislike the alternative… i’m pleased about the away and the home but scapulaire on the home is not done well and the away is tan when it should be white! other than than that i’m quite happy with them.
Make your own Jennifer, maybe puma will consider it for next year
that sucks. i did that with my france kit, purchased it to small, now i don’t wear it very often, but still a very nice jersey.
i probably could… Micoud then!
yeah, if i can get it over here it would be significantly cheaper without the delivery costs. I’ll let you know for sure.

-

I’m going to have a blog up tomorrow, revealing the new kits. I hope to find training pictures also, it will be thte first day of the new season.
