Writing This In My Little Corner
By: Jennifer | September 16th, 2008This game obviously hurt my poor heart. I didn’t even know how I can sit through the second half (’cause that’s when I started watching) after watching just about 5 minutes of play. Really, what is that!? It felt like playing with non-existent defenders..no more like defenders who intentionally set the ball up for Chelsea.

Just seeing Chelsea everywhere and creating so many chances makes me glad that the score line isn’t 7-0 or 8-0. I think our best chance might have been Wendel’s missed freekick. I don’t get why Blanc did not start Cavenaghi. It just does not make logical sense. Especially when he chose to start Gouffran who frankly just isn’t what he’s talked up to be. Of the recent games..he’s just been so invisible.
Despite the fact that I think our backline (esp. Placente) should get a good spanking, there’s a upside to this day. ROMA LOST TO CLUJ 2-1. That means we still have a shot at qualifying! *woohoo*
Yes, I laugh at other people’s failures, sue me.

It’s not just learning from this..someone in the forums mentioned that Bordeaux is not even last year’s Bordeaux. Somehow it does seem like we’ve taken a step back. Maybe it’s from being touted for being a challenge for the title this year, or maybe it’s something else. I don’t think last year’s Bordeaux would have problems staying afloat in L1 or even putting a goal or two back to Chelsea.

It’s a lot of factors. The thing is, the coach and the players are holding themselves to higher standards, so they aren’t playing with the same do or die abandon they played with last season. I don’t think this team is any weaker this year - in fact it’s stronger. You haven’t really lost any key players and aren’t suffering from any hideous injuries.
Plus I don’t think the CL is a big priority for Blanc this season. He knows that a solid run in the league is more important - Bordeaux won’t win the CL and would be lucky to get out of the group stages, but after a couple of seasons of back to back CL runs, with more money in the coffers and more experienced players, it’s an entirely different story. So it looks like the goal for Bordeaux is to gather the experience (and that TV money!), let the players have some fun, not pick up any injuries, and hope that Marseille and Lyon get distracted enough by the CL that Bordeaux can take advantages if they start to falter in the league.
And echoing what Gaston said, this defeat is really educational for the team. You never know what you’re capable of until you hit rock bottom, and in the next game, the players will be eager to erase this memory with a far better one.
