Ramé Will Not Start Against Chelsea
By: Jennifer | November 25th, 2008
Ummmm, yeah, that basically sums it up.
“If we win it, it will be an achievement.” – Chamakh
Le groupe : Valverde, Olimpa – Chalmé, Diawara, Jurietti, Placente, Planus, Trémoulinas – Diarra, Fernando, Gourcuff, Wendel, Sertic, Traoré – Bellion, Cavenaghi, Chamakh, Gouffran, Obertan.
I was so excited about Ramé returning to training, but I guess he didn’t pass his physical and cannot participate against Chelsea. If Chelsea can squeeze a 4-0 with Ramé in goal, what will happen tomorrow? Jussiê, Saunier and Paletta are also returning. Obertan and Saivet remain injured.
I think the lineup will be fairly predictable, with Cavenaghi starting from the bench (yet again.) As you know, Cavé is very very upset by this setup. He scores in almost every game even when he does come off the bench and is definitely an asset to the team. He does deserve more time on the European level, but I agree with Blanc that he is more of an asset when he comes off the bench to help with finishing. I think comparing Cavé with Chamakh is comparing such different things. Chamakh doesn’t score, but he assists goals and provides the kind of creative impetus that Bordeaux needs up front, along with Gourcuff.
I would love to see Chamakh and Cavenaghi play together because that would be a formidable duo. However, this obviously does not fit in to Blanc’s usual formation with the lone striker up front. In the comments, Julien mentioned that if Cavé does leave in January, it will help with the bills for Gourcuff a lot. I feel the same way, but I’m also concerned with losing our highest scorer. Yes, Chamakh, Bellion and Jussiê are amazing in terms of striking, but I do feel that they just don’t have the finishing quality that Cavenaghi possesses.
A lot of these decisions are up to Blanc to make, including what I think should be a debate: Gouffran or Obertan. I see his need to consolidate what he thinks is a good purchase (gone bad, if I might add); I see the need to allow younger players (perhaps, I mean Homegrown Youth Players That Didn’t Cost As Much As Gouffran Did) to play. One lesson Bordeaux is starting to take from Lyon’s success is the well established academy. Lyon is obviously well prepared for the departure of this generation (Benzema, and already ben Arfa) with the new generation (Tafer, Grenier, etc.). I think Bordeaux’s progress in this step is already evident with players of quality like Saivet, Obertan and Saunier. An alternative to actually buying Gourcuff at this inflated price (when he will leave again in another 2 years, for maybe 5m more) is in two parts: 1. Beg for a loan extension, 2. Invest in (quality) youth players and in the youth system. But as I’ve mentioned before, most of this is up to Blanc, who may or may not leave for greener pastures at the end of the season. No extension deal just yet.
While I’m at it, I might as well throw a few names out there that Bordeaux are following:
-Dănuţ Coman, Goal (Rapid Bucharest): Bordeaux are (rumoured to be) in talks with this young Romanian keeper
-Yoann Pelé, Goal (Le Mans) Linked to Bordeaux for the next season
-Yohan Cabaye, midfield (Lille OSC): Another one of those young French talents coming out of Lille. He claims to have a preference to Bordeaux (questionable), but also won’t mind joining his old coach at Lyon. Fitting in the Lille-on trend, perhaps.
Wow, this post has nothing to do with Chelsea at all and I also just keep talking and talking… Really, a win will be a miracle.

Nice match preview Jennifer!
Going into the match, I think it’s extremley important that we defend well, there is no room for mistakes. Any mistakes may prove costly. Becasue we area at home we must take our game to Chelsea and try to respond on the counter-attack (similar to what Roma did), with our fans behind us they’ll be our twelfth man, which will prove important. Also keeping in mind Gourcuff seems to create more on the counter.
Regarding Cave and Chamahk — I think Cave should definatily start his finishing is so very crucial for a big game like this where we may not get many oppertunities, whereas Chamahk can be very important to. Like you said, he creates so much room and and oppertunites for teammates which is very imoprtant for Blancs style of play. Together they can be very important for this game.
I doubt Blanc will change his tactics and style of play. He could possibly use the same a lignment that was used last weekend against Rennes. My only concern about that would probably be Diarra, I don’t think he can take the work load of being the only DM. He isnt a Gattuso or Essien out there. He’s more if a CM being deployed as DM, similar to Diarra of Madrid. Diarra is going to need support, him alone would be a big risk.
The ball is in Blanc’s court now. He’ll make the best decision based on the players he has available.
Thanks alot Jennifer, you had me very excited about Rame making a return!! How did Obertan injure himself?
I’m hoping for a 2 nothing win.

Another point when Roma takes three. Bordeaux can still qualify if we beat the Romans December 9th. The group is still pretty close…

Nice game by Bordeaux. They were very strong in the first half and could easily have scored 2-3 goals. Gourcuff continues to impress. That pirouet move was something else.

We dominated the 1st half we should have atleast won by two goals but I think the result is fair. Hopefully we can get through to the knock-out round.
Allez Bordeaux!!

good game that we should have won, the teams lacks a goal scoring machine like trez or benzema. we where too creative but lacked a finisher.
i want them to qualify badly, because with each game they are improving, it will be unfortunate if they don’t qualify with what looks like best team bordeaux has had in recent memory

Well played by Bordeaux. That Diarra goal was a thing of beauty. (And both goals in the game were scored by French guys.)

Triaud is not interested in selling Cavenaghi this winter. He said “For us, the question of Cavenaghi’s departure this winter is not even being asked.”
“I have heard no news from his agent since June. And given that we are still on track in several competitions, it isn’t a subject we are thinking about.”
“You don’t let a player go in the middle of a season.”

Gaston, We do have a goal scoring machine in Cavenaghi (or so I believe), but he just doesn’t WORK in Blanc’s formations. I think right now he’s trying to stick with the formation that he knows will work, and that simply doesn’t include Cavenaghi AND Chamakh. Especially with Jussie returning and Bellion getting back in shape. I don’t see why he has to have Gouffran flanking the attack. I can see that he is also an offensive midfielder, but IMO, Chamakh can also fill that role to a good extent and Blanc should be able to integrate Cavenaghi.
Julien! It’s great news that Triaud isn’t planning to sell Cavé, but the way I see it, if Cavé continues to be treated in this way, he will want to leave at the end of the season, and the group chemistry would be so bad. Especially in Bordeaux we need a good team chemistry because we obviously don’t have as many players to draw on compared to squads like Lyon’s or even OM’s.
Hi Nikita, um, I don’t really have their emails (if that’s what you’re asking)? They do have weekly discussion boxes on their site (girondins.com) but I am no great speaker of French. As you know, the bloggers on the Offside are mostly in no way affiliated with the teams that they blog for other than a passion to watch and discuss their football. Haha, I wish Triaud and M6 would pay me for this, but obviously I don’t. I also don’t know the players personally, aside for maybe one or two of the youth players. Again, if I did, I would not want to be held liable for sharing personal information. I hope you understand

“Obviously, I’m interested! Whether in my everyday life or in my football, I feel good Bordeaux. I argue all matches L-1, even if I am disappointed not to play in League Champions. But if Tottenham double my salary, I go! It is the job.” – Cavenaghi
Tottenham offering 15.5m
And I have had enough of this Manchester City thing. We cannot let both Diarra and Chamakh go to City. Ugh.

The unbreakable Gourcuff broke before Sochaux ):

What a boring game…I fell asleep half way through the second half.
Any word on Gourcuff would likely make his return? If it’s a muscle injury I don’t expect him to feature agasint Roma which his a huge blow.
Mancester want every player under the sun. Buffon, Torres, Kaka, Aguero. If they want Diarra he’s 25ME and Chamakh 30ME.

Valverde was made man of the match! I can just imagine how boring it was.
“City, yes, I’m interested,” he said. “I dream of playing in England.” (Chamakh)
But I’m guessing that if Blanc is staying, Chamakh ain’t leaving.Posted from
