Trophée Des Champion (Live-ish) Report
By: Jennifer | July 25th, 2009
Awwww, there’ll be better photos other than my crappy screencap.
(from half time)
I took notes while watcing it on TV, LOL! Planus played the whole first half with the tag sticking out of his shorts. I wasted enough time noticing this detail, but that was how boring the half was. I’m literately yawning and falling asleep right now from the lacklustre first half.
I took my time observing our new signings. So far, I can conclude that Plašil is terrible at passing and Carrasso is very good at standing…and catching the ball!
At first I had some concerns about the pitch, since it is an artificial pitch and is hideously ugly with those coloured stripes, but Trémoulinas reassures me in his halftime interview that “It’s not much different from the real pitch, and we’ve also prepared for it”. He’s also pleasantly suprised by the # of supporters present and is glad for the encouragement the squad gets from them.
Soon, I will devote an entire article to how Wendel has completely lost it in midfield. The goal was almost completely the effort of Trémoulinas, beating two defenders and expertly guiding the ball to Cavé. He’s certainly better at being a winger than Plašil. Trémoulinas gets my vote for man of the match…so far.
As well, Chamakh looks a little sad, especially considering the number of “Chamakh, reste à Bordeaux” signs in the Stade. I feel a little bad for the Quebeckers as they seem to be quite confused about the occasion, sporting their France jerseys and also their OL kits.
Also, as a commentor pointed out, the new kits look hideous. They look like they stuffed napkins/serviettes down their necks and called that a kit.
Second Half
Ehhh, I wasn’t really paying much attention. Just a lot of passing around and, well a great goal at the end from Fernaaaaaaaaaaaaaaando. I got to watch the celebrations too and that was cool.

Apparently there’s some 34k spectators present in the Olympic stadium in Montréal, a new record. Fancy that, 34k people watching a boring game.

oh my goodness Wendel’s head is bleeding. I guess that’s why some people have hair…for a little protection.

Give Plasil time. He is good and he will come good.

Aww, looks like I’ll miss the presentation again, but another good opening to a new season
Yeah Jao, you’re right, Sertic should have played but…alas, Blanc cannot be perfect.
Aditya, I hope you’re right. I haven’t seen Blanc make an fantastic signing yet. I lost some confidence after he signed Placente.

Congrats to the boy scouts. Funny kits. Back-to-back TDC. Got a long way to go to catch Lyon.

Nevermind, I am watching the ceremony after all. Gourcuff is confident for the start of the next season and poor Chamakh just got asked how he felt about his last match for Bordeaux. Poor baby (he said something about how awesome Bordeaux is, doh)

Ahahaha, I’m totally getting a kick out of Cavé staring at the trophy, trying to read what’s on it. He’s so cute.

I was at the stadium, what a boring game. If it wasn’t for the “Hola” it would have been a waste. Although the surface was acceptable, it was far from perfect. The ball bounced unusually high and a few occasions players risked serious injury. The crowd was fantastic, Montreal showed once again to be a soccer city, now we just need media and big business to understand that.

“I can’t speak for the players and how they feel about it, but I expect synthetic grass to be a part of the renewal of French stadiums,” he said.
“You can play all the time — morning, noon and night.” – (Thiriez, president of France’s Professional Football League.)

Does anyone know is the rumour about Bordeaux wanting Dino Drpic from Dinamo Zagreb true?

Just to be fair, what you perceived as “confusion” wasn’t so much the Quebeckers, but the French fans (the many from France in attendance) who decided to wear any French jersey they had, National Team or club team. I saw Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, PSG and a few others I couldn’t immediately identify. I saw just about every jersey imaginable at the game, including the Impact, Pumas UNAM, Atlante, Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barça, PSV, as well as a Florida Panthers NHL jersey. Call it confusion if you want, I call it 34,000 footy fans showing their colors.
