SM Caen – a preview?
By: Jennifer | August 8th, 2008I know this isn’t much of a preview for the game again Caen tomorrow, but I’ll try my best. I just finished watching the opening ceremony of the Olympics and my eyes are a little tired. (It was extravagant though, props to my rich relatives who could afford to go there to watch).
Bordeaux – Caen is at 3pm EST tomorrow, for those in my timezone, along with many other games. Sadly, the one TV5 (a French channel in Canada) chose to broadcast is Monaco – PSG so I’ll be streaming. That is IF I can find a stream. All myP2p have is this suspicious looking page, and I doubt many links will pop up before tomorrow. If you do know a stream, PLEASE hook me up, or I’ll be relegated to watching Monaco – PSG or end up watching Inter – Ajax.
Bordeaux
Le groupe :
Ramé, Valverde – Chalmé, Diawara, Jurietti, Planus, Trémoulinas – Diarra, Ducasse, Fernando, Gourcuff, Wendel, Traoré – Bellion, Cavenaghi, Chamakh, Gouffran, Obertan.
Placente is not included in this lineup because he will be with the CFAs for the weekend. He just arrived back for training a few days ago from Argentina, since he needed to get his papers done for his family. Jussiê who is finally recovering from his injury, and Saivet, whom I’m told to look out for, will also be with the CFAs. I *think* Blanc might play 4-3-3 or even 3-4-3, but I’m no master at this and should not be held accountable. Blanc should find the biggest problem in selecting strikers, since all the strikers are in very good form. I expect to see Gouffran and Chamakh starting, and maybe even Cavenaghi.
Speaking of Gouffran, the first league game for him in the navy & white kit is against former club Gouffran, and he says he’ll take it seriously. This will also be Gourcuff’s return to L1.
ETA: For those interested, a Gourcuff interview

It will be a shame if Cavenaghi doesn’t open. Gouffran and Chamakh are talented, but Cavenaghi scores goals, a quality which is quite rare in the French league… Somehow it seems that French coaches don’t like goals, they prefer players who dribble than players who actually score goals.
Last season we were only average until Chamak went to the African Championship, and Blanc had no other choice but to play with Cavenaghi. I hope that Blanc won’t repeat his mistakes. Let Cavenaghi play!

Last year, Cavenaghi had a short preparation because of an injury, and still had to prove himself worthy of a starter position. Of course, everybody knew he was great, Blanc included, but how could you remove Bellion who was scoring goals almost every game? Chamakh’s case is different.. I don’t think he’s really in competition with Cavenaghi because he’s not really a scorer.
If Cavenaghi doesn’t start, it will only mean he’s not completely fit just yet (again, he had a slightly shorter preparation). In any case, he will play
