OMG It’s Tomorrow

By: Jennifer | August 1st, 2008

Girondins mag now available. Can I has?

Yes, the big match this summer will be tomorrow at 12pm EST (or 18h00 local time). Traditionally, Les Trophée des Champions is played between the L1 winner and the holder of the Coupe de France, but since Lyon won both last season, Bordeaux can consider themselves lucky that they’re playing this at all (the last time that happened this match was cancelled.)

Both clubs have published an article about this game, and just as expected, Bordeaux’s is about Lyon, and Lyon’s is about themselves. Of course, neither of the coaches are going to take this too seriously. Blanc is all about “if we can have a trophy, why not”, while Puel just considers it another preparation match. Of course, Cris, being very comical, had this to say:

“It is above all to refine our preparation. But it remains a game to win, although having done the double, I do not understand too the reason for this match.”

I wish I had lineups or something (though that’s easier to think of for Bordeaux than Lyon). I’m sure they’ll be up by tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll be able to liveblog this match. I’m praying that it will be on television and I won’t have to stream.

ETA: Domenech and Boris Diaw (basketball player) will both be in the stand to watch the game. Domenech needs to make his list for France – Sweden in Göteborg. My friend will be there to watch. I am excited. Also, Källström’s hometown.

ETA2: Le groupe lyonnais:
Lloris, Vercoutre – Réveillère, Boumsong, Clerc, Cris, Faure, Grosso – Bodmer, Delgado, Juninho, Källström, Makoun, Pjanic, Toulalan – Baros, Benzema, Govou, Tafer, Pied

ETA3:
Le groupe bordelais :
Ramé, Valverde, Chalmé, Jurietti, Trémoulinas, Planus, Henrique, Diawara, Ducasse, Diarra, Fernando, Gourcuff, Wendel, Gouffran, Obertan, Bellion, Chamakh et Cavenaghi.
* A disposition de la CFA : Olimpa, Saunier, Sertic, Traoré et Saivet
* Choix de l’entraîneur : Baysse et Marange

I am going to support Bordeaux. Lyon not winning this title will give renewed confidence to other title challengers that Lyon can be knocked off the crown. Allez Girondins !

I laughed so hard at this. Lyon are such a self absorbed club, aren’t they? ♥

Also, can you let me know if you liveblog? Because then I’ll direct my readers to your blog tomorrow during the match.

(If you tell me you can get that magazine, I will be really upset. The Nice store won’t mail anything outside of France. *shakes fist*)

Inara – It’s so sadly true. (But at least they have the privilege to do that.) Yeah, I’m 80% likely to do it — satellite or stream, but I’ll let you know tomorrow morning.

Martha – Bordeaux’s mag haven’t been available outside of stadiums for the longest time. I WISH I CAN GET IT :@ Look at them on the cover!!!

    Jennifer,

GirondinsMag is trying a subscription model, and claims to have already signed up subscribers “from the four corners of the globe”. The subscription form (http://www.girondins.com/html/mag/mag-abonnement.pdf) has a number that you can call for details of overseas subscriptions.

M, let me see what I can do. No promises, but you know that I care.

Thank you. I saw it a while ago and I figured that shipping to Canada will kill and I’ll end up pulling my hair out trying to read the french. I just wish they would sell single issues OR do a .pdf version like LyonMag does..

Eh, bon. Postage to Canada will be significant.

In the meantime, Martha can download pdfs of Issa Nissa from here http://www.issanissa.com/Magazine/. They are old (they just put up the one I brought her from le Ray months ago), but better than nothing.

Thank you Ursus — I’ve downloaded the matchday PDFs from the official site but never would have found this link on my own. (I’ve already got parking issues, so if I print all this stuff out and downgrade my bathroom, and it’ll almost be like being at the Ray myself!)
