I tweet a lot! Follow me on twitter @BordeauxOffside
Top tweets of the week:
1. According to Traoré, last season’s disappointment has no place in le Hallian, especially not with Tigana at the helm. He says that the team has lots of spirit and is working well together.
2. Tigana apparently interested in 22 year old Nice striker Anthony Modeste for 2-3m euros, but Nice is asking for 4m. Modeste spent the last season on loan at Angers, and is relatively inexperienced.
3. Bordeaux non-target Dragan Mjrda announces that he is going to Bordeaux.
4. In a new interview with him, Gourcuff talks about the vacations being too short, about training, about Tigana, and about continuing at Bordeaux.
6. Daisuke Matsui: There have been no contact with Bordeaux.
7. ChristianGourcuff: “Yoann is not inclined to leave [Bordeaux]. We are not looking for other clubs.” Papa Gourcuff reveals that there was contact with Manchester City, that he even met with them on behalf of Yoann but nothing materialized.

I was in the middle of writing a post on the whole (non)transfer saga that went on, but before you know it, it’s the start of a new season. As usual, I’m not good with previews so I’m not sure what to say about the coming season, but I’ll do a little summary of preseason and perhaps what to expect of the group in tomorrow’s opener against Montpellier.

There wasn’t a lot of frenzy on the transfer market for us, but we quietly signed Vujadin Savić, a CB that we’ve been needing to sign since last season. It’s been quite difficult for Savić to integrate into the group as he does not speak a word of French, but certainly the goal against Tours in his debut with us will help him a lot.

From what I saw of the preseason (as in, I saw one friendly against Legia Warsaw), I really think that we will see a lot of Cavenaghi this season. Tigana seems to have a lot of confidence in him, much more than Blanc. He’s been scoring goals left and right in preseason, and I’ve always had belief in his ability to finish and just slot in goals. I say: let ‘em rip Cavé! As for the others, as usual Gourcuff has been indispensable and account for many of the goals, as with Trémoulinas who has been called up by Blanc to play against Norway. I’ve also noticed that Plasil has been playing the kind of role that Chamakh had played. Cavé and him make a great partnership on the pitch, which also obviously translates from their close friendship.

Also, WE STILL DON’T HAVE A REPLACEMENT FOR CHAMAKH! Anyone else a little bit concerned? I know Tigana is counting on Cavenaghi and to some extent Saivet, but buying a replacement is very very important at this point, even if the target is not too experienced.

From all the interviews that I’ve read about Tigana, his training regiment and tactics aren’t a big departure from what we were used to with Blanc. He is someone with the right amount of ambition and I do think he is the right fit.

As for the preview part of this post, both OM and OL have a rocky start to the season, losing and drawing respectively. Montpellier just recorded a shock loss to Hungarian club Gyor and are probably out to prove themselves against Bordeaux (and vice versa). Would their form continue from last season? Bordeaux’s form definitely will not be as crap as how we ended the past season.

The team for tomorrow (no probable lineup from me since I don’t know what Tigana is thinking):

Olimpa, Andrietti – Sané, Savic ,Trémoulinas, Marange – Diarra, Fernando, Gourcuff, Plasil, Wendel, Ducasse – Ayité, Bellion, Cavenaghi, Gouffran, Jussiê, Saivet

I’m pretty damn excited to see Henri Saivet play, though I don’t think he’ll get much playing time in the first game of the season, but I have a feeling that we will see a lot of him.

Carrasso, Ciani, Chalmé, Henrique are suspended, while Ramé (injured the 2nd day of preseason), Keita, Planus (injury sustained at the WC) remain injured injured. Lasne, Sertic, Traoré &  Saunier were selected to play with the CFA.

STREAMS WILL BE POSTED IN THE COMMENTS AS THEY APPEAR. It will be best if you check atdhe.net as well as myp2p.eu before the start of the match. I will also be live tweeting the game, so check my twitter for updates.

I forgot to mention winning the Tournoi de Paris after drawing and beating Roma and Porto’s reserve squads with our starting XI, weee!

If you want to read a more insightful preview of the season in general, here is one.

Traore will go on loan. He apparently has poor work ethic and is difficult to motivate.

As for the striker, I think, it will be Modeste who will come in and replace Chamakh. I’m skeptical about him but either way he’s the type of player we need. If he comes and scores 10 gaols that’s fine.

I’m already excited, waiting for Sunday’s match. Bordeaux and France are on a losing streak. I really want to see Bordeaux win. Anyone seen Plasil against Latvia? I hope he’s not hurt in any way. We need our classic starting 11 to be 100% healthy

I haven’t seen him against Latvia…I feel almost guilty that I didn’t follow Plasil or Trémoulinas internationally..

I think both Blanc and Tigana stumbling should be an indication that things are changing instead of things not working..it often takes a team a while to get acquainted with a new coach, and I do think that reflects in the performance.

It would be very important to get a win at home to assure people though (like me). Chalmé and Trémoulinas and also Carrasso are back, so that is reassuring..we wouldn’t be 100% without Planus but I think it’d be another 2 weeks until he is fit? I just don’t want to see Fernando/Sané play defence again..it was horrible!

Also very excited for Modeste, though I hope Cavenaghi won’t fall out of favour because while he wasn’t so good against Montpellier, his performances in preseason were very promising and I’d hate to see him not given a chance once again..not that I think that will happen because I don’t think Tigana trusts Gouffran yet, and compared with the rest of them Cavé is easily the most experienced and definitely could show Modeste a thing or two. I also think Gouffran really moulded into the role Blanc gave him a bit too much to work well as a striker. He looked kind of confused whether he should be more of an out-and-out like Cavé, or more involved in the play like Chamakh…they’ve definitely gotten too used to playing with only one striker for waaaay too long.

Alright, I summarized my observations of the game in a comment..I will now refrain from posting for another 2 weeks.

Modeste signed on Friday the 13. Bad omen? He’s also wearing the number Pauleta used when he first signed. I’m a bit excited about this singing.

Fernando was actually quite good last week, especially for someone who ins’t particularly an out and out defensive player and doesn’t play in that position. Sane was horrible last week; he wasn’t reassuring at all.

Gouffran is just really shitty since he arrived.

Did you manage to find it? I’m looking for it too..
Not sure if I can catch PSG tomorrow *ugh, once again*
Hopefully there’ll be torrents/I’m allowed to stream at a big family BBQ :(

EDIT: The whole Gourcuff debacle now has blown up. Now both Wendel and Gourcuff want to leave. I am slightly annoyed.

If Gourcuff and Wendel really want to leave, I consider them spineless and management should decide to sell them and find players who are willing to fight for the good of the team, rather than listen to ‘expert’ opinions suggesting that another French team could be the right step in their career. Tigana should not have to work with prima donnas

The match was full of nerves and both sides commited horrible mistakes which contributed to many enjoyable moments. Here’s my very short summary:

Wendel has been committed to this club for many seasons now and I don’t think this gesture is one of spinelessness..but I think he is willing to stay for another season. As for Gourcuff, I really don’t want to pass judgement right now before hearing what JLT and Tavernost have to say..but I am kind of miffed that he’s saying this now.

I am still clearly sad about Gourcuff wanting to go. I cannot tell what’s behind the scenes yet. Here are some of my post-match thoughts:

I didn’t manage to find one, especially since I’m the one that upload many of the matches. Apparently it wasn’t aired on Canal+ either, so chances are there isn’t one.

About Gourcuff, his actions have been very unclassy. He goes before Jean-Wii a day before an important match after two straight losses with 10 days left in the transfer market and says he wants to go play with Lloris and Toulalan. He can go!

As for Wendel, it has more to do with the club not hearing his demands. He’s been screaming for an extension by his demands do not meet the economic criteria of the club. I think it has more to do with money… I would like him to stay.

its done. gourcuff is gone. this according to girondins.com. ive never posted here, but i keep up with what goes on here. this news sunk me. hopefully tigana can keep everyone else motivated. otherwise its going to be a long long season.

there is also a possibility that cavenaghi could be on his way to sunderland. finding replacements at this late stage in the transfer window could be rough.

after watching the psg match, im at a loss as to where the goals are going to come from this year. chamakh and gourcuff carried the team last season. and no one looks ready to take over for them.
