Match Day 4: Bordeaux vs. Marseille Liveblog

By: Jennifer | August 29th, 2010

A couple of new additions and a few departures from the team. I am still weeping for Cavenaghi’s loan to Mallorca, but excited about the addition of Maazou and Ben Khalfallah (both who will feature today.)

The group that will be travelling:
Carrasso Olimpa – Chalme, Ciani, Henrique, Savic, Trémoulinas, Marange – Diarra, Fernando, Plasil, Wendel, Ducasse, Ben Khalfallah – Gouffran Modeste Saivet, Maâzou.

Did you hear what Nicholas de Tavernmost said today? Our Mercato is finished, no Gameiro, no Cabaye, noone other than maybe Corchia, who is less than 3M euros. 15-20M euros of the 22M euro sale will be reinvested to balance our books. I hate M6. -__-

I always new that M6 wanted to sell but I didn’t think that they wouldn’t inject some of the money into purchasing some good players. It’s ridiculous. They’ve never herd of taking slight risks… the deficit would have been there if we didn’t sell, so why not invest in good players and continue with a 5-8M euro deficit then having 0 with no star quality?

    Anicho,

Ligue 1 has very strict financial rules.

Gourcuff & Chamakh have been huge losses to this team. Cavenaghi had gone stagnant in the last couple of years and made sense to ship him out.

Maazou & Modeste have joined in. To cover Cavenaghi & Chamakh. I don’t think Bordeaux could have done any better in that department. Chamakh went for free and Gameiro’s price was too high.

To cover Gourcuff they have bought Ben-Khallfella. Though Cabaye would have been my choice, for whatever reasons it wasn’t choice of management. KBK is a good utility player.

Overall this hasn’t been a bad mercato for FCGB. Though the squad is much weaker compared to the squad of last season, it is still good enough to challenge for the European spots. It is time for a new team to be developed. That’s how it works in France.

No French club has been restricted by the DNCG. The only obligation they enforce is not to be in debt, and as long as Bordeaux generates a net profit each season we are fine. Also, The clubs have the right to be in debt if they have the agreement of the banks.

We had made an official bid for Loic Remy (10M€) not to long ago before we decided to recruit Savic (2M€) and Modeste (3.5M€), and sold Gourcuff. Combined, both these players (Savic and Modeste) prices put together just exceed 5M€, half the bid we put in for Remy. When the club say we have a deficit of over 15M€ everyone find that really hard to believe, considering our achievements in UCL.

It has been a mediocre mercato in every way I see it. We are trying to get back into the UCL this year and all the players we’ve bought are not proven and do not have the level to playing the UCL. Can I honestly say that I’m confident that these player will have a similar impact as Gourcuff and Chamakh this season? No, Impossible.

I think players should have been sold earlier so we could have started rebuild earlier. last year only the starting 11 had any level, whatsoever. Gouffran, Jussie, Henrique, Bellion, Traore and Cave all gave nothing for over half the season. We knew that weren’t going to participate in the UCL, but yet we decided to keep an European sized squad. If there is any deficit, of course this will contribute to it. Bellion (3€), Jussie (3.5€) and Cave (4€) have relativity high wages which is anywhere from 80,000 € – 120,000 €. Selling them would have eliminated our deficit and opened up 2 Non-EU spots.

Ideally we would want to do similar to what Juve did when they we’re relegated, and sell of the larger wages that contributed little, keep the names that want to and have been fighting, and bring in on or two players from L1 that want to have a shot at playing with a big club. p.s. Gourcuff would have been one of the first players I would have sold (for over or around 20M€), tbh; He wasn’t being used as an image to promote the club or attract other low profile stars. It’s the best way to rebuild and renew a squad that was absolutely shaken and gave 0 for 4 months.

I look at Triaud and I know that he just doesn’t know how to run, organize and modernize a club that is supposed to have big objectives. There is no direction. He’s a volunteer, so he doesn’t have the sporting and business views like Clausde Bez or Tapie or Aulas of today had. Coaches remain for two or three season the players have contracts for five and there is nobody who has any idea how to build a squad.

This summer was poor, Bordeaux showed little ambition.

everytime i watch modeste play it irritates me. he’s not good yet he scores one important goal and everyone forgets. he has so much work to do to be a top class player. this signing was stupid in every aspect of it being a signing to replace chamakh. i just finished watching the u21’s he was taken off early he was crap the whole game. he contributed nothing.

I don’t like how he plays so far and he needs a lot of work to be a prolific finisher..the goal was 80% Plasil and only 20% Modeste.. of course he’s not a top class player..he didn’t play much at Nice either and tigana has a lot of work ahead of him with Modest, Saivet and Savic.

Savic I wont comment on because I herd he was highly rated in Serbia, and Serbia has an inferior league, so he’ll have a lot of adapting to do. He looked nervous from the start and a bit slow to react to everything. I want to give him a full season at least, and he’s 4th or 5th choice so it doesn’t affect us much.

Saviet, now, at least not has Ben Khalfallah to work with from the more experienced L1 players. Saviet we know has a lot of potential. His technique and skill is incredible, but putting it all together in matches is something we’ll all like to see.

Now, Modeste, I think, shouldn’t have been signed because he wasn’t trusted at all by his former coach at Nice… Now he’s our first choice? Is something wrong here? I want to give him time because he’s probably a good player if Arsene Wenger was scouting him under a year ago; however, starting for Bordeaux is too much of a big responsibility for a 22 year old that has proven nothing to date.
