Jeremy Mathieu to Bordeaux? Guess not.
By: Jennifer | July 14th, 2008
This picture has nothing to do with this post, but if Martha’s Nice crush is Rool, Cavenaghi must be my Bordeaux crush.
That’s right Toulouse, you get to keep your defender. Bordeaux was interested Jérémy Mathieu as a second choice behind Mikaël Silvestre (who said no, due to pay cuts.) Mathieu has one year left in his contract with Toulouse, and can potentially leave as a free transfer by the end of the next season. Logically, this is a good time to sell, but Toulouse insists that he will not leave because he is a vital player in the squad. Mathieu has also turned down a two year extension, stating that:
Fast forward to last week: in a friendly against Monoca, Toulouse’s defender Mathieu injured his right foot, reportedly at the same spot which has been troubling him for the past 8 months. When Toulouse could have gotten €4.5million by selling Mathieu, they are now getting nothing plus the added benefit of an injured player. As they’ve said on girondins4ever, stubbornness pays.
In other transfer news (old), Mathieu Valverde have expressed his decision to sign a two-year extension, Fernando Cavenaghi also stated his desire to stay (“I want to stay here, play the Champions League here this is beautiful”) Negotiations for an extension is expected to take place when he returns.
The players had today off, and training resumes on Tuesday. Gouffran, who left the friendly match with ice is deemed fit and can resume training, while Jussiê is still rehabilitating.
Pictures from training on the 2nd.

Rehabilitation is going well for Jussiê.

Poor Jeremy Mathieu. A talented player that should have never moved to Tolouse from Sochaux. Mathieu and Pedretti, two of Sochaux’s finest ever products have both really lost steam since they first debuted, while I fear the same for Jeremy Menez and Julen Quercia.

So are Bordeaux in desperate need of a defender, or was Mathieu sort of a dream, and they’re ok without him?
(And I’m glad we all have random people of whom to post pictures — you have Cavenaghi, I have Cyril #1, Inara has Juninho … )

What the hell is going on with Mathieu anyway? He was all about “OMG I LOVE ROMA AND I DON’T WANNA PLAY IN FRANCE, LYON SUX” except Roma decided to sign Riise. Then Mathieu was “OH BLANC IS TEH COOLEST, I HEART BORDEAUX.”
No wonder Toulouse are so pissed. Especially cause he was planning to leave on a free.

How can they want to keep a player that obviously doesn’t to play in their team, then?
Anyway, it seems his injury isn’t that bad and he already started practicing.Posted from

Oh and this afternoon, as I was walking downtown, I saw Ducasse and Gourcuff
It seems Gourcuff was visiting a house in a small street near Allées de Tourny.Posted from
