EDIT: Dragan Mrda the new GIRONDIN?

By: Anicho | July 31st, 2010

After a couple days of speculation and news from Serbia (Vojvodina’s unofficial website) that Dragan was on his way to Bordeaux, it looks as if this rumour is now dead. Dragan will not be the new replacement for Mauroune Chamakh. Tigana said yesterday, Sunday August the 1st after the match against FC Porto that possibly a young player will arrive. Triaud also confirmed this morning that Mrdja will not arrive at Bordeaux.

I know nothing about the player, but he looks like a good player. A positive one, infact. The Serbian has signed from Vojvodina for a fee that should be below 5M euros (still unknown). He comes for relatively cheap after scoring 22 goals last season for the Serbian side. In his last two season he has scored an astonishing 35 goals. I’ve got to be honest about this signing, I’m a bit skeptical, and I’ll explain why later. There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic, tho. I think he should be able to score about 18 goals a season if he adapts well. I don’t know if he has any European experience, which isn’t much of a concern now, at least.

Here is a video of him:

Today we played AS Roma. The final score was 1-1 with goals from Wendel (pk) and Brighi. Here are the goals:

Review

We started of well and played a really good first half. We moved the ball around well, quick one touch combinations, good movement. Although, we did look to be playing in a manner very similar to Laurent Blanc’s system, there were some differences. We played in a much faster rhythm and exploited the wings much more. Gourcuff played a lot deeper in the midfield. Instead of playing right behind the strikers he played in almost a distributing role, which, I think, may benefit him more. In the second half, we didn’t so great. We couldn’t connect offensively and were sloppy defensively. To be honest, we looked tired. It’s still very early into the season and this our first real match that served as a good test. Thing will improve.

On another note, Bellion has to go. What did he do this match? Nothing.

Next match tomorrow vs FC Porto

Anicho, I just twitted about Bellion having to go without reading your comment first. We think alike. I hope Tigana makes the same choice. Sadly, David’s glory days are way behind :(

I’m quite satisfied with the way the team played today. Fernando made one mistake which cost a goal but otherwise the players seemed to enjoy playing. Gourcuff and Cavenaghi will become a fearsome couple this season, I dare to gamble

We’ll have to sell some players, and it’s Bellion who I think will be the first to be asked to leave. I thought his attitude during the last part of last season was selfish, he didn’t appear to care. It’s the right time for him to go, tbh. Plus, his wages are quite high for someone who doesn’t play.

Fernando, I must say was awesome today as a CB. His positioning isn’t great, but he did the job. We can ignore the mistake; between him and Savic the communication isn’t to great because of the language. I optimistic about both Gourcuff and Cave having a great season under Tigana.

Roma played with the exact same team in the entire match.

I sure hope you guys didn’t play with your first team, because Roma played with the C-team (except for a few players that would fall under the B-side category).

We played the players likely to feature in our opening Ligue 1 match. It was most of our starts, though. I’m fine with our performance, It’s only preparation.

…But, thank you. It’s clear that I was mistaken.

I think Mrda would be a good addition to the team. There’s too much of a cloud around this deal. Cavenaghi needs a companion in attack and the sooner, the better.
