Cavegol is back
By: Jennifer | July 17th, 2008(A big welcome to set, you’ll be a great addition here.)
-Fernando Cavenaghi is back. After serving Argentina in friendlies and WC qualifying this summer, he is back after an extended vacation. He did not play in the friendly against Châteauroux, and is undergoing a different training than the rest of the Bordelais. He is feeling good, though.

His hair is also growing back. I’m still trying to get over the bald look.
-The Mathieu drama is not over. I spoke too soon about the injury — he seems to be okay. Bordeaux made another bid that is much higher than the projected €4.5 million, but this bid is again swiftly rejected. Toulouse have said that they will not consider a bid less than €10 (ridiculous, right?)
Lauren Blanc had this to say: (Excuse the poor Google translation)
“It’s a record that we follow with great interest. We did what we can. Jeremy Mathieu interests us. But one suffers. From the moment a president decides to keep the player on record. Mathieu has a contract (until June 2009, ndlr). If he must remain in Toulouse, I wish him a good season in Toulouse. Afterwards, we stay in a game of words. If it’s a reality, he (the president Olivier Sadran Toulouse, ndlr) calms down, he will keep. But I do not forget that there are many presidents who said the same thing … » “
Bordeaux is now looking at Palmeiras’ Leandro Silva Wanderley as a possible alternative for Mathieu. He is a little old (29 years) for my tastes (and no, I don’t mean that kind of taste.) Can anyone tell me more about him?
-There were also reports of Alonso possibly leaving the club (to Monaco), pushed out by Gouffran. (He was offered an extension w/o the pay raise he wanted). However, Bordeaux has again extended that offer with the pay raise, so it looks like he will be staying.
-Bordeaux played a friendly against Châteauroux, the scoreline being 1 – 1. I didn’t catch this game, but from what I read off the minute-by-minute report, most of the action was in the first half. Blanc fielded two different teams in this match. For the first half, he played a curious lineup with Yoan Gouffran as a second striker (he was later replaced by Obertan, coming into the first team from the CFAs.) Also, Yoann Gourcuff scored his first goal for Bordeaux. If you can tell, I’m not overly warm to Gourcuff. Maybe it’s because he’s Milanista.
First Half: Ramé (cap) – Jurietti, Planus, Diawara, Trémoulinas – Alonso, Diarra, Gourcuff, Wendel – Gouffran, Chamakh.

(Starting XI)
Subs: Valverde, Henrique, Fernando, Bellion, Ducasse, Chalmé, Marange, Obertan, Saunier, Sertic, Traoré, Olimpa, Baysse

I wouldn’t look at anything more than 6m, frankly.
