Alonso to Monaco (and other news)

By: Jennifer | July 30th, 2008

I waited a while to write this because I wasn’t quite sure whether it’s going to happen or not. Now, however, it’s quite offical. Bordeaux’s official site has published an article stating that Bordeaux and Monaco have reached an agreement for the Argentine midfielder, and that he is now at Monaco for his medicals. He reportedly will sign on for 3 years.

Alonso has been looking for an exit ever since the arrival of Yoan Gouffran, and was not satisfied with his pay. He has also rejected two offers of an extension, opting instead to play under Ricardo.

-In other news, Triaud has announced that there will be no more new signings this summer, and that for Blanc, Placente is not #3 behind Mathieu and Silvestre (yeah right, he so is), and that he will bring many different qualities to the table.

-There have also be increasing rumours of Jemmali to Grenoble (it seems like all the out of contract players are heading there these days, and it’s not hard to imagine why.) Football365 reported that he signed on for 2 years, but that is probably unfounded considering that the article has been taken down.

-The medical staff has confirmed Jussiê is almost fit again, and will now train with the rest of the squad. He has been injured since February. I doubt he will get fit enough to play against Lyon in the Trophée des Champions, but he will definitely be back for the start of Le championnat.

-Blanc downplays the Bordeaux threat to Lyon in this interview. There’s also other stuff, if you’re interested.

I think Bordeaux is going to win the Trophee des champions. They’ve been playing together as team longer this pre-season, plus the squad hasn’t changed that much, and no major departures.

Too bad about Alonso though. It was starting to become a nice big Argentine family over there.

I’m not really into making predictions but I think we are looking at either a 2nd or 3rd place finish for Bordeaux which would be great for them since it would guarantee Champions League football again allowing them to further strengthen their team for an eventual French league title run.

Inara -Bordeaux winning will be a great boost in confidence (and I don’t think anyone minds more shiny things in the cabinet), but if you look at their performance in the friendlies…I think it will be quite a toss up.

Sportboy -Fingers are crossed for the best, but a 2nd or 3rd place finish is definitely for the best. I don’t think Blanc has his ideal squad yet, and I really look forward to seeing the academy players playing for the first team. Who knows, Bordeaux may actually do well in the Champions League :D

Martha -I APPROVE OF THIS INTER THING. But one Argentine comes, another one leaves — there’s a balance XD

Oh I agree that Blanc doesnt have his ideal squad yet which is why they wont win it this year and they are positioning themselves to win it in a couple of years time.

The goal should really be participating consecutively in the Champions League. Not only does this mean a lot more money, but it also adds up in terms of experience and publicity. It’s how Lyon grew as a club as well.

Ideally, in terms of France’s development as a league, I’d like to see Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, and PSG fighting for the European spots every season. As much as I love the openness of L1, it’s also a big weakness when compared to other leagues. Domination=money=success.

Agreed Inara. It could have been the third year in a row they go to Champion’s League hadn’t they messed up 2006/2007’s season finish.

But now all I really hope is that Blanc will stay for a couple more years.
